Rome, April 28 (LaPresse) – "An 18-team Serie A? It's a topic that must be approached with a comprehensive vision; it cannot be reduced to a mere numerical choice between 18 or 20 teams. World football is facing a series of major challenges: from changes in the media landscape to economic sustainability and scheduling issues. There needs to be a discussion among the major European leagues, UEFA, and FIFA to understand what we want the future of football to be," said Claudio Fenucci, CEO of Bologna FC, during an interview on Radio Anch’io Sport on Rai Radio 1.
"If domestic leagues have to reduce from 20 to 18 teams just to make room for more matches, it doesn't make sense. But if, as part of an overall calendar harmonization, all European leagues — including La Liga and the Premier League — agree to move to 18 teams, then it’s a discussion worth having," he concluded.
