Tennis, ATP Madrid: Berrettini reaches third round after comeback victory over Giron

Milan, 26 April (LaPresse) – Matteo Berrettini has also qualified for the third round of the Mutua Madrid Open (Masters 1000 – prize money €8,055,385). The Roman tennis player, ranked 31st in the ATP rankings, defeated American Marcos Giron, ranked 45th, in three sets with a score of 6-7 (3), 7-6 (6), 6-1 in over two and a half hours of play. It was an incredible match, with Berrettini failing to convert three set points in the first set. Then, between the end of the second set and the start of the third, the Italian suffered an abdominal injury that forced him to serve at reduced speed. Despite this, Berrettini closed out the match at the first opportunity. In the next round, Berrettini will face England's Jack Draper, seeded number 5.
