Rome, 5 Apr. (LaPresse) – ’It's difficult to analyse, being so close to what happened. I'm certainly disappointed because it didn't go as we'd hoped, especially in the Coppa Italia and Champions League. But I don't agree when I hear people talking about failure: our work was interrupted when we were one point away from fourth place in the league table, which was our main objective at the beginning of the season’. These are the words of former Juventus coach Thiago Motta, in an interview with the Corriere della Sera, talking about his recent dismissal from the Juventus club.
‘When I accepted this position, with great enthusiasm – Motta explains – I knew it would be a three-year project, based on a profound revolution of the team, on its radical rejuvenation. I know very well that, in teams of Juve's level, you have to win. All the more so after years in which this has not happened. The project certainly did not go as we wanted or as we had imagined’. Finally, regarding his relationship with the dressing room, Motta states: ‘Whoever said that I had a dressing room against me is a liar. These things are unacceptable, it's not true’, he explains, adding that ‘sometimes we won, sometimes we didn't. To judge me as a coach, to criticise my choices of pitch, players, tactics, everything to do with football, I accept and always will accept. And in fact these are analyses that help me grow. But I don't accept personal attacks based on gossip’.
