Milan, 3 Apr. (LaPresse) – “European football must continue to be a model of unity in this increasingly divided world. We unite and inspire positive change. It is our mission, to which we are totally devoted”. This was stated by the president of UEFA, Aleksander Ceferin, in his opening speech at the 2025 Congress. ‘From the electrifying atmosphere in the stadiums that has been a source of inspiration for millions of people around the world, EURO 2024 has reminded us that where politics builds walls, football builds bridges. There were no divisions, but rather we worked together, demonstrating a social cohesion that involved the whole of Europe’, he added. ’I often hear it said that Uefa is too focused on profits… but we are not a cold and insensitive profit-making machine: we are instead a marvellous organisation for collecting and distributing funds, with a conscience. We have a conscience because we distribute almost all of these revenues. Specifically, we redistribute 97% of the earnings to reinvest them in European football, for the benefit of many, not just a select few,’ he concluded.
