Rome, Feb. 28 (LaPresse) – Sofia Goggia finished just off the podium in the downhill race in Kvitfjell, Norway, a World Cup event. The Italian skier was beaten by Austria’s Cornelia Huetter, who claimed victory ahead of Germany’s Emma Aicher and the USA’s Breezy Johnson.
Federica Brignone secured fifth place, benefiting from Swiss skier Lara Gut-Behrami’s 12th-place finish, which allowed Brignone to extend her lead in the overall standings. Laura Pirovano finished sixth, while Nicol Delago placed 17th, Nadia Delago 19th, and Elena Curtoni 22nd. Marta Bassino finished outside the top 30.
The discipline standings are now extremely tight, with Brignone still leading at 334 points, followed closely by Goggia (310) and Huetter (308). These three athletes remain in contention for the crystal globe. Meanwhile, Gut-Behrami, finishing 12th today, falls behind with 197 points.
In the overall World Cup standings, Brignone extends her lead, now totaling 1,044 points compared to Gut-Behrami’s 831, widening the gap to 213 points. Croatia’s Zrinka Ljutić, who did not compete today, remains third with 753 points.
