Milan, Feb. 28 (LaPresse) – George Russell set the fastest time in the final afternoon session of Formula 1 testing in Bahrain. The British Mercedes driver clocked a 1'29"545 lap, edging out Dutchman Max Verstappen in the Red Bull by just +0.021 seconds and Alexander Albon in a surprising Williams by +0.105 seconds.
Lewis Hamilton's Ferrari only managed the sixth-fastest time, trailing by +0.800, behind Oscar Piastri in the McLaren at +0.395 from Russell and Pierre Gasly in the Alpine at +0.495. Charles Leclerc, who drove in the morning session, finished ninth, +1.266 behind.
Rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli placed eighth in the other Mercedes. These were the final tests before the official start of the World Championship during the March 14-16 weekend with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
