Sestriere (Turin), Feb 21 (LaPresse) – Federica Brignone has won the women's giant slalom in the Ski World Cup at Sestriere. The Italian skier, who was second after the first run behind Alice Robinson, overtook the New Zealander in the second run, finishing 40 hundredths ahead of her rival, who placed second.
The podium was completed by Norway's Thea Louise Stjernesund, 1.57 seconds behind Brignone. With Lara Gut-Behrami crashing out in the first run, Brignone extended her lead in the overall World Cup standings to +170 points over the Swiss skier.
Lara Culturi also made it into the top ten, finishing seventh, 2.21 seconds behind the winner, after gaining two positions in the second part of the race. Sofia Goggia placed thirteenth, while Marta Bassino finished further back in eighteenth place. Asja Zenere ended up in twenty-third position.
