Milan, February 13 (LaPresse) – English football will use semi-automatic offside technology for the first time in the fifth round of the FA Cup in early March. The AI-powered player tracking technology was initially set to be introduced in the Premier League after one of the international breaks earlier in the season but was delayed due to issues in the testing process.

Premier League chief executive Tony Scholes stated last week that progress has been made in recent weeks. The technology will make its debut in the FA Cup, which has now reached the round of 16. However, the Football Association has clarified that it will be used in only seven of the eight matches taking place between March 1 and 2.

Semi-automatic offside technology was first used in a World Cup during the 2022 men's tournament in Qatar. In Italy, it has been in use since the 2023/24 season, following its debut in the 2023 Italian Super Cup in Riyadh.
