Jannik Sinner beat Denmark's Holger Rune (world number 13) to advance to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam event of the year played on the concrete courts of Melbourne. The Italian needed four sets (6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 the final result) to get the better of his opponent, at the end of a match in which there was no shortage of difficult moments, especially at a physical level. During the third set Sinner, in fact, asked for the physiotherapist's intervention and momentarily returned to the locker room. After a few minutes of apprehension, the match resumed.
