Rome, January 19 (LaPresse) – Tommaso Giacomel has made his mark in the history of Italian biathlon: the 24-year-old from Trentino dominated the mass start in Ruhpolding, Germany, claiming his first career victory in the top circuit. This is a long-awaited triumph for Italian men’s biathlon, with the last victory dating back to March 2021, when Lukas Hofer won the sprint in Östersund.

It was an exceptional performance by the young athlete from Trentino, who had previously finished second three times in the World Cup. Giacomel shot perfectly, hitting every target for the first time in this discipline, even in the decisive final shooting round where he was head-to-head with Sturla Lægreid and Johannes Bø for the win.

The athlete from Imer remained composed, and as Bø missed a shot, he cleared all the targets to ski solo towards the finish line, crossing it in 36'21"8. He finished with a margin of 6.3 seconds over Lægreid (1-0-0-0) and 11.4 seconds over Bø (1-0-0-1), who announced just yesterday that this will be his final season.
