Ukraine: Kiev drones strike Russian petrochemical plants

Frankfurt (Germany), 12 June (LaPresse) – The Ukrainian military is reported to have carried out drone strikes against several Russian regions overnight, targeting numerous petrochemical plants located more than 1,200 kilometres from the Russian-Ukrainian border. This is reported by Russian media channels on Telegram, as reported by the Kiev Independent. According to the reports, Ukrainian drones struck the TogliattiKauchuk petrochemical plant in the Russian region of Samara in the early hours of the morning, causing a fire at the facility. Photos and videos posted on social media appear to show long-range drones over the city prior to the attack. Shortly afterwards, a massive fire was also spotted at the Nizhnekamskneftekhim synthetic rubber plant in the city of Nizhnekamsk (Nknk). A thick column of black smoke rose over the city following the attack. Nknk, located in the Republic of Tatarstan, more than 1,200 kilometres from the nearest point on the border with Ukraine, is one of the largest petrochemical enterprises in Eastern Europe. The plant has previously been the target of attacks by Ukrainian groups, the most recent of which took place in May.
