This is fake news, purely fabricated.’ So said Justice Minister Carlo Nordio in an interview with Tg1, regarding the matter of the pardon granted to Nicole Minetti. ‘I was sorry that the Quirinale was also attacked; that much is true. And I was also sorry that so much energy was expended, including by the judiciary, on a matter that appeared unfounded from the outset,’ he added. Regarding the lack of a letter of request, the minister clarified that “there is no possibility of a letter of request between Uruguay and Italy outside of specific cases where a suspect is involved. The Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office itself, however, following a series of investigations, acknowledged the absolute unreliability of the statements made at the time by this person.”
