Rome, 28 May (LaPresse) – The Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, and the Minister for the Economy and Finance, Giancarlo Giorgetti, “express their deep satisfaction with the large-scale operation to combat money laundering, which has led to the seizure of substantial assets worth over €200 million. They also extend their congratulations to the Guardia di Finanza, which led and coordinated the operation at an international level". This is stated in a note from Palazzo Chigi, which emphasises that “this is yet another heavy blow dealt to the Mafia during this government’s term, enabling the recovery of proceeds from drug trafficking activities that flourished under the aegis of Cosa Nostra and, among other bosses, Matteo Messina Denaro”. ‘The Government,’ the statement continues, ‘reiterates its commitment to allocating the recovered funds to measures aimed at enhancing public safety. The assets seized in today’s judicial operation may in fact be distributed among the relevant authorities as early as next year, to be used for strengthening police operations, in particular for bolstering security measures at railway stations.’ “Thanks to an operation by the Guardia di Finanza, assets worth over €200 million have been seized from the mafia. This is a major blow to organised crime, demonstrating once again that the fight against the mafia is and remains a priority for this Government. These resources will be invested in public safety, particularly in strengthening security at railway stations. The State is here.” Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni wrote this on X.
