Rome, 8 May (LaPresse) – From today until Sunday, PD Secretary Elly Schlein is in Canada for the Global Progress Action Summit. The host is Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and guests include Barack Obama, whom the Democratic leader says she “will certainly meet”. Speaking to the newspapers, Schlein emphasises: “We need to unite progressive forces against those who are dismantling the world order.” The aim is “to broaden dialogue and cooperation with all the countries betrayed by Trump’s policies and tariffs.” Referring to the domestic political front, “we will be ready whenever the vote takes place,” she says, as reported by Il Messaggero. And leadership will be decided together: “either we will agree on whoever gets one more vote in the elections, or we will hold coalition primaries, for which I have already made myself available”. As for the “centrist wing” that is struggling to emerge, she admits to “following its dynamics closely”, even if “it is not the job of the PD secretary to point the way for other political forces”.
