Rome, May 4 (LaPresse) – "Every action of our military finds validation and guidance in the path traced by the Constitution. The core principles of freedom, equality, justice and respect for human dignity are not theoretical statements, but represent the ethical compass, the orientation of the daily commitment of the army and the armed forces. Concrete examples are the missions you carry out, from that of Italian personnel deployed in Lebanon to the ‘Strade Sicure’ operation on national territory." This was stated by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, receiving at the Quirinale the Chief of Staff of the Army, Carmine Masiello, on the occasion of the 165th anniversary of its foundation. "My thoughts," Mattarella added, "are at this moment with the Sassari Brigade within the command of the Unifil mission and with the personnel engaged in bilateral training initiatives in support of the Lebanese armed forces. Italian soldiers, together with those of other international contingents deployed under the aegis of the United Nations, carry out in extremely difficult security conditions the delicate peace mission which represents the last instrument on the ground available to the international community to achieve a peaceful resolution of the serious crisis underway. The firm resilience they demonstrate is commendable."
