Rome, Apr. 4 (LaPresse) – Three countries in just over 24 hours for a mission that was political but at the same time with a clear economic dimension. The regional tour in the Persian Gulf by the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, has concluded, after a first stop in Saudi Arabia followed by visits to Qatar and then the United Arab Emirates. Both in Jeddah and then in Doha and Al Ain, the premier addressed the issue of the war in Iran, reiterating to the leaders of the Arabian Peninsula countries “Italy’s closeness” following Tehran’s attacks.

With all her interlocutors, Meloni discussed the defensive military assistance provided by Rome, the Strait of Hormuz, agreeing on the importance of ensuring “as soon as possible freedom of navigation,” as well as how to secure energy supplies and reduce the impact of the crisis on families and businesses. She also discussed the prospects of the conflict and efforts toward a diplomatic solution.

The whirlwind mission in the Gulf also allowed Meloni to discuss bilateral relations and ongoing strategic partnerships. On the table was broad cooperation, from the economy to mutual investments, including critical infrastructure, defense, security and the management of migration flows along Mediterranean routes.
