Rome, 25 March (LaPresse) – “It was a pleasure for me to welcome Nathan and Catherine, as it was my intention to try to defuse the tension that has arisen around this case. I have neither the authority nor the intention to question the judicial authorities’ decisions, nor do I wish to judge these parents’ lifestyle.” So said the President of the Senate, Ignazio La Russa, who received Catherine Birmingham and Nathan Trevallion, the parents of the so-called ‘forest family’, at Palazzo Giustiniani. “What I hope will be helpful is to convey my moral suasion to everyone so that rigidities may be removed, thereby facilitating a return to a united family as you wish,” added La Russa, addressing the two parents directly. “ I am very pleased to have learnt that you have no objection to the children attending school, that the house may have the necessary sanitary facilities, and, in essence, the conditions required for the family life you desire. I am firmly convinced,” he continued, “that there is no greater happiness for children than being with their own father and mother. And that is what I wish for you.”
