Rome, 25 Feb. (LaPresse) – “The judiciary is trying to shed light on the exploitation of riders. I believe that politics cannot stand by and watch. I once again ask the government to approve a minimum wage law, because below 9 euros per hour it is not work but exploitation. A specific law to protect riders is also needed, as they have no rights, no protections, no insurance, no sick leave.” This was stated by Democratic Party secretary Elly Schlein on the sidelines of a conference on Tina Anselmi at the Senate.
“Europe has already moved in this direction. Italy must adopt a specific law to protect riders and must do so bearing in mind that there is no room in this country for exploitation, there must be no room for labor exploitation. Let us not leave it only to judges to enforce Article 36 of our Constitution, which speaks of fair and dignified pay,” the Democratic leader added. “We will insist on this point and oppose any government initiative that instead moves in the direction of hindering the work that some judges in Italy are doing precisely on Article 36. It is an amendment that has been discussed several times, which we have rejected every time and will continue to reject, the Pogliese amendment, which seeks precisely to limit the action of the judiciary in enforcing a right enshrined in our Constitution, that of a fair and dignified wage,” she concluded.
