Milan, 17 February (LaPresse) – ‘Italians voted for the centre-right partly for this reason: to re-establish clear rules and enforce them. And the government is doing so with determination, despite a politicised section of the judiciary continuing to obstruct any action aimed at combating mass illegal immigration.’ This was stated in a video on X by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who writes: ‘We will continue to defend security and legality, without backing down.’ "An Algerian citizen who is in Italy illegally, with 23 convictions, including assault for kicking and punching a woman, cannot be held in a CPR (Centre for Preliminary Reception) or transferred to the centre in Albania for repatriation. Some judges,‘ she added, ’have even ruled that not only will there be no expulsion, but that the Home Office will have to compensate him with €700 for attempting to enforce an expulsion order. Now, I think it is legitimate to ask how we can seriously combat illegal immigration if those who repeatedly break the law remain on our territory and the state is even sanctioned for trying to enforce the rules. Nevertheless, the government will continue to work determinedly to strengthen repatriation, to make the tools for combating irregular immigration more effective, and to guarantee security and legality for citizens, including through the initiatives that Italy is pursuing in Europe for faster procedures and effective repatriation.
