Bilzen (Belgium), 12 February (LaPresse) – "There is definitely a Franco-German-Italian engine at the moment, and there is certainly convergence with Chancellor Merz on many issues. We are strengthening our bilateral cooperation, but it is not something that is being done, let's say, against someone else, excluding someone else. France is participating in the competitiveness roundtable we have promoted, and that is a good thing because it is clearly a very important country to discuss these matters with." This was stated by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni upon her arrival at the informal summit of EU leaders on competitiveness at Alden Biesen Castle in Belgium. I never see politics in this way, but certainly at this stage there is a revival in relations and in the ability of Italy and Germany to coordinate their positions. Chancellor Merz's role in this has clearly been very positive, it is very positive and I am grateful to Friedrich because we are doing a good job together," she added.
