Rome, 30 January (LaPresse) – "The judiciary's concern is to ensure that the independence and autonomy of the courts remains effective as a cornerstone of the constitutional system. In a Constitution that has its essential pivot in the principle of substantive equality, the judiciary, which exercises its judicial function so that the law is equal for all, feels that it has fulfilled its duty if the law, every law, is effectively protected and not if it is merely proclaimed. Its autonomy and independence are not a privilege, but are prerequisites for the judge to always be impartial'. Thus spoke the first president of the Court of Cassation, Pasquale D'Ascola, in his report on the administration of justice in 2025, during the inauguration of the judicial year in Rome, in the presence of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella.
