Milan, 9 January (LaPresse) – "“We will do”, “we will intervene”, “we will present”. In her penultimate year at Palazzo Chigi, Meloni today seemed to be giving her inaugural speech. I will focus on the first seven wonders of the three-hour conference: 1. Economy. Meloni finds the data on employment and household purchasing power “encouraging”. It depends. They are not encouraging for over 12 million inactive people, for pensioners on minimum pensions and for workers, for whom they have only allocated 2-3 euros in the budget. Conversely, they are encouraging for ministers and undersecretaries, whose reimbursements have been increased. 2. Bills. Last year, Meloni said she could not answer a question about high energy prices in 20 seconds. Today, the answer: “we will intervene on energy costs”. Calmly, please. 3. Taxes. “We would have liked to do more”. Stop, you have already set the record for tax pressure. We are already on the second edition of the Tax Book. 4. Security. “The results are not enough for me”. Finally, a bit of reality. But she immediately blamed the judges, with zero self-criticism. Yet it is her government that has made laws that allow thieves to escape because they are warned before arrest and sent law enforcement officers to watch empty centres in Albania. 5. Ukraine. After telling us for over three years that we should not negotiate with Putin and that we must bet on Ukraine's military victory, today Meloni says without batting an eyelid that Europe must talk to Russia. That is what we have always maintained. In between: military deployments, deaths, devastation, economic damage to Italians, rearmament plans… After the phone call to Putin, we expect an apology to all Italians. 6. Foreign policy. She has confirmed it: for her, international law is valid up to a point… up to Trump! 7. Healthcare and rearmament. She has indicated her priorities but has said nothing about what she intends to do about emergency room queues and the increase to 6 million in the number of Italians who do not receive treatment. And he failed to mention that one of his priorities is rearmament, with increases of over £23 billion in three years. An oversight…'. This is how the president of the Five Star Movement, Giuseppe Conte, commented on his X account on today's annual press conference by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
