Milan, Jan. 3 (LaPresse) – "The U.S. attack on Caracas definitively clarifies the nature of the new global scenario: democracy has nothing to do with it, only oil matters. We are not facing isolated events, but a new world order based on military force and energy interests. Venezuela is bombed and Nigeria is targeted, two major hydrocarbon producers still relatively independent, solely for control of fossil resources. This is the real stake: whoever controls oil and gas controls political power, geopolitical balances, and global power relations," said Angelo Bonelli, AVS parliamentarian and co-spokesperson of Europa Verde, in a statement.
"The fall of international law ushers in the era of the law of the strongest and double standards in wars: from the Russian war in Ukraine to Gaza, where the perpetrators are defended by Trump. Tomorrow it will be considered legitimate for China to invade Taiwan. Once the principle that disputes are resolved by force passes, every border becomes negotiable through war. We are facing a dangerous fusion of micro- and mega-sovereigntism that destroys interdependence and international legality and imposes a new neocolonialism based on the alliance between financial capitalism and military power. Moving away from fossil fuel dependence and defending international law is not just an environmental choice, it is a choice for peace," Bonelli concluded.
