Milan, Dec. 6 (LaPresse) – “I believe that in a coalition, especially one as cohesive as ours, there can be different emphases and sensitivities, and that is legitimate.” This is what the leader of Noi Moderati, Maurizio Lupi, said in an interview with Corriere della Sera, commenting on the Lega’s resistance to the approval of the Arms Decree for Ukraine. “I am fully aware that the Italian public today, when asked ‘Do you want to spend money to strengthen defense and help Ukraine?’ responds ‘It’s better to invest it elsewhere,’” Lupi added, “but as Salvini also knows, the role of politics is not only to listen to citizens’ requests and understand their needs, but also to provide guidance and explain why certain choices are made.” On support for Kyiv, Lupi emphasized: “We, and Europe, must invest in our defense and continue to support Ukraine because the future of our democracy is at stake. If we are divided, we play into Putin’s hands, and our weakness is above all cultural, regarding the deep reasons for our being Europe.”
