Rome, 29 Nov. (LaPresse) – "I was invited to participate in Atreju and I asked, as I did last year, if there was any possibility of a debate with Meloni. Again this year, I was told that it was not planned, but, going to someone else's home, I still felt that democratic debate is always a good thing. Then there was a new element, with Elly Schlein making a direct public debate with Meloni a condition for her presence at the Fratelli d'Italia event. Now some people are writing that Conte sided with Meloni, but I did not side with anyone, let's not talk nonsense." This is what the leader of the M5S, Giuseppe Conte, said yesterday at the States General of the Restart, returning to the failed debate in Atreju with the Prime Minister and the secretary of the PD. “After this public challenge from Schlein,” Conte revealed, 'FdI contacted my staff to ask if I would be available for a three-way debate. I said, “You choose, let's do this debate, I'm always available”. Then I learned that Schlein, upon learning of my presence, preferred to withdraw. I regret this, we could have really pressed Meloni. It would have been an excellent opportunity, but at this point Elly has withdrawn," concluded the former prime minister.
