Johannesburg (South Africa), Nov. 21 (LaPresse) – Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni spoke by phone with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz for an initial exchange of views on the American peace proposal for Ukraine. This was stated in a note from Palazzo Chigi explaining that during the conversation, "the importance of supporting the ongoing negotiating efforts was underlined, and the ultimate goal of achieving a just and lasting peace, in the interest of all Europe, was reiterated. The reference to solid security guarantees, integral to the broader framework of European and transatlantic stability, in line with what has long been proposed by Italy, was welcomed." "Other elements of the plan," the note continues, "were considered worthy of further examination." Meloni's contacts with major leaders interested in resolving the crisis, Palazzo Chigi concludes, will continue in the coming hours and tomorrow, also on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg.
