Rome, 20 November. (LaPresse) – With the reformulation of an amendment already filed, the League is re-proposing in the budget a one-year cut, in 2026, of the RAI licence fee – from the current €90 to €70, already proposed in the 2024 budget – and, at the same time, a fund of €430 million (already planned two years ago) 'to improve the quality of public radio, television and multimedia services throughout the country, as part of the initiatives provided for in the national service contract between RAI-Radiotelevisione italiana S.p.A. and the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy. The provision is included in “text 3” of an amendment first signed by Bergesio (Provisions on television broadcasters), which in its original wording provided for a resilience fund for local television broadcasters. This proposal could create tensions within the majority, given Forza Italia's coolness on the subject. With the introduction in 2016 of the so-called “licence fee in the bill”, it has been possible to drastically reduce the number of Rai licence fee evaders, as reported in the latest Report on the unobserved economy and tax and social security contribution evasion published by the Mef two weeks ago.
