Berlin (Germany), 15 Nov. (LaPresse) – The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, landed in Berlin shortly before 11.30 this morning for his two-day visit. Mattarella will be received in the early afternoon by Steinmeier at Bellevue Palace, the official residence of the Federal President of Germany. The two presidents will present the winners of this year's Presidents' Award during the award ceremony. Awarded in 2021 and 2023, the award was established in 2020 by Mattarella and Steinmeier themselves to promote and support the development of innovative forms of twinning. It rewards German and Italian cities and municipalities united by twinning or partnership agreements that present projects aimed at promoting shared perspectives through mutual exchanges, particularly in the areas of Youth and Intergenerational Dialogue, Civic Engagement, Europe and Culture of Remembrance, Sustainability and Social Cohesion. Before the awards ceremony, both presidents will give a speech. On Sunday 16 November, President Mattarella will be at the Reichstag Building, seat of the German Parliament, to participate, together with the Federal President, in the “National Day of Mourning” ceremony, 80 years after the end of the Second World War.
