Rome, 15 Nov. (LaPresse) – ‘We have €8 billion in investments on hold for the next few years, we must release them or we will come to a standstill the day after the end of the NRRP’. This is according to Gaetano Manfredi, mayor of Naples and president of ANCI, in an interview with La Stampa. Prime Minister Meloni claims that the budget does not include cuts to municipalities. Is this true? ‘There have been multi-year cuts in previous budget laws, and the impact in 2026 will be €460 million,’ he replies. So will these cuts have an effect on municipal budgets? ‘Of course. And the situation for municipalities is very difficult because we have fewer resources for welfare due to increased demand from the population. There is also a greater impact of disabilities, another issue we are dealing with,’ he adds. "We are dealing with very rapid processes of change in society, which require profound interventions and reforms. The ageing population has an impact on care, services and the healthcare system. We need a national plan that takes these growing needs into account. The other priority is housing, a real national emergency that affects both the poorest sections of the population and the middle class."
