Rome, 11 Nov. (LaPresse) – "Over the course of 80 years, the United Nations has been at the forefront of decisive progress, from decolonisation to supporting the social and economic development of billions of people, from peacekeeping to the defence of human rights and fundamental freedoms. Today, the UN continues to be the fundamental framework for addressing challenges that transcend national borders." These were the words of Italian President Sergio Mattarella, speaking at the United Nations Office in Vienna on the International Day for the Prevention and Fight against All Forms of Transnational Organised Crime and the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Palermo Convention. ‘The promotion of a shared agenda for the preservation of our planet, the challenges posed by artificial intelligence, the protection of global health, to name but a few. Organised crime falls within this category of challenges, which require a constant and coordinated international response,’ added the Head of State.
