Milan, 9 November (LaPresse) – "The European Union allows the purchase of liquefied natural gas from Russia, Italy does not, but there are countries such as Germany that absolutely need to stock up. Moving from 100% from Russia, as was the case three years ago, to zero, there are intermediate steps. The European Union continues with sanctions, we are now on the 19th package, which are also heavy, but it is not that in order to impose sanctions we have to resort to self-harm by sanctioning ourselves." This was the view of Environment Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, speaking on the sidelines of the “Diamo nuova energia all'energia” (Let's give new energy to energy) event in Milan, in response to those who asked him if he saw a danger in excluding Hungary from sanctions on energy supplies from Russia. ‘Italy has LNG and 28 billion cubic metres of regasification capacity, while Hungary has no sea access for regasification and was totally dependent on Russia,’ added the minister.
