Milan, 6 November (LaPresse) – "Long before the issue of the elderly became a challenge for contemporary developed societies, a number of organisations, including those represented here, addressed the issue of solidarity between generations, giving rise to valuable activities. These activities have evolved over time, in parallel with the changes that have taken place in our communities. With legitimate pride, President Franco Massi wanted to trace the stages of a journey that has achieved important goals, at the end of which stands out the objective of protecting the elderly from the risk of marginalisation, whatever their condition." This was stated by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, during a meeting at the Quirinale with a delegation from the National Union of Social Assistance Institutions and Initiatives (Uneba). 'The experiences you have gained – within the broader field represented by the Third Sector – are a positive example of the subsidiary responsibility you assume and fulfil. You perform an important task in pursuing the goals of social solidarity set out in the Constitution. To the operators, volunteers and all those who animate the organisations gathered in Uneba, I express the appreciation and gratitude of the Republic," he added.
