Rome, 1 November (LaPresse) – "The death of a police officer and the serious injury of another while on duty in Torre del Greco sadden me deeply. On behalf of myself and the Government, I express my condolences and sympathy to the family of the deceased police officer and to the entire police force. I am following the condition of the second seriously injured police officer with concern. This dramatic episode reminds us once again of the courage and risk that law enforcement officers face every day to ensure security and legality. The State will continue to support them with commitment and work to improve the conditions in which they operate." This was stated by the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi. The 47-year-old police officer who died last night in a road accident involving a patrol car on duty in Torre del Greco, in the province of Naples, was named as Aniello Scarpati. Scarpati, Assistant Chief Coordinator, leaves behind a wife and three children. The injured police officer suffered internal injuries but his life is not in danger.
