Ancona, 1 November (LaPresse) – Regional councillor Antonio Mastrovincenzo has been removed from the Marche PD register. The centre-left councillor, who was running for his third term in the elections on 28 and 29 September, was a candidate on the centre-left coalition list “Matteo Ricci presidente” and not on the PD list. “I consider the decision taken by the provincial committee of PD guarantors against me to be both serious and absurd. In terms of both substance and method,” said Mastrovincenzo this evening when asked about the matter. “I stood as a candidate on the 'Matteo Ricci Presidente” list on the basis of a resolution voted on, at the same time as the PD lists, by the regional assembly, the highest body of the party in the Marche region. The same Assembly had also decided that I would remain in the party without interruption and that I would immediately join the PD group if elected. If these conditions had not been in place, I would never have stood as a candidate on another list, which was, of course, authorised by the Democratic Party as the list of the presidential candidate." For the councillor, the decision of the Committee of Guarantors “also clearly violates Article 47, paragraph 3, of the PD's national statute, according to which I should have been informed of the proceedings initiated and then heard on the merits. I should also have been notified of the terms and conditions for a possible appeal. None of this happened”. On the future, he says: "I could still try to appeal and at the same time request to join (as a non-member) the PD Council Group. However, I believe that the most serious and consistent choice on my part is to wait for the illegitimate and unjust act by which I was suspended to be challenged with a clear and unequivocal position taken by the party bodies at the provincial level (regarding the violation of the procedures provided for in the Statute) and regional level (regarding compliance with the decisions of the Marche PD Assembly of 28 June). In the absence of these formal acts, I will regretfully have to draw the necessary conclusions.
