Rome, Aug. 28 (LaPresse) – This morning, a meeting was held at Palazzo Chigi convened by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to review the possible negotiation path for peace in Ukraine following recent talks at the White House. Attending the meeting were Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini, and Minister of Defense Guido Crosetto.

During the meeting, Palazzo Chigi stated, “Opportunities for dialogue toward a just peace, which have emerged in recent weeks, were examined in depth. This is a process whose cornerstone is robust and credible security guarantees for Ukraine, to be developed together with the United States and European and Western partners.”

“Italy is contributing to their definition with the proposal of a collective defensive security mechanism inspired by Article 5 of the Washington Treaty,” the note added. “It was also reiterated that no Italian participation is foreseen in any potential multinational force to be deployed on Ukrainian territory.”
