Rome, 12 August (LaPresse) – Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had a telephone conversation today with the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, H.R.H. Mohamed bin Salman Al Saud. According to a statement from Palazzo Chigi, the conversation allowed for an exchange on the latest developments in the conflict in Gaza and the main issues of bilateral cooperation. With regard to the situation in Gaza, the statement reads, ‘the two leaders expressed concern about the latest Israeli decisions, which appear to be moving towards further military escalation, stressing the need to reach, without further delay, a cessation of hostilities to end the dramatic humanitarian situation in the Strip and begin the reconstruction of Gaza, where,’ the Prime Minister emphasised, ‘the role of the Arab nations remains fundamental.’ In agreeing that only a political process towards a two-state solution can lead to a just and long-term peace, Meloni highlighted, as she did yesterday to President Abbas, ‘the need for Hamas to immediately and unconditionally release the hostages and accept that it cannot have a role in the future of the Strip.’ The telephone conversation was also an opportunity to reaffirm the common desire to deepen bilateral cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, starting with the full implementation of the strategic partnership between Rome and Riyadh launched during the Prime Minister's visit to Al-Ula last January.
