Milan, August 10. (LaPresse) – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure, Matteo Salvini, called the approval of the final project for the Bridge over the Strait of Messina one of the "greatest satisfactions of his political career." In an interview with Corriere della Sera, Salvini emphasized that the project represents a unique initiative capable of generating 23 billion in GDP, fostering investments, employment, and tourism, and attracting global attention. However, he criticized the opposition from those on the left who oppose the project, accusing them of ideological motivations rather than practical concerns. The minister stressed that, beyond bureaucracy and political objections, the Bridge represents a shift away from assistance-based policies like the Citizenship Income, focusing instead on infrastructure that will attract investments and create wealth for the South. Salvini also highlighted that the Bridge over the Strait will benefit the northern regions as well, particularly Lombardy, whose businesses will be among the most involved in its construction. A more economically developed South, he concluded, would be a benefit for the entire country. According to Salvini, the project is similar to the Autostrada del Sole, which in the past helped transform the country, and will be crucial for Italy's balanced and lasting development.
