Rome, 5 August (LaPresse) – "As my colleague Mauro Berruto has rightly stated on several occasions, the Italy-Israel match, valid for qualification for the World Cup and scheduled for 14 October, should not be played and Israel should be excluded from international sporting competitions because of the ongoing genocide in Gaza, as was done for Russia following its aggression against Ukraine and for South Africa while apartheid was in force. International sporting bodies cannot apply double standards. In the unfortunate event that this happens, we appeal to the Italian Football Federation to ensure that on that day the Italian national team sends at least a clear and unequivocal signal of condemnation of the massacre and of solidarity with the Palestinian people'. This was stated by Laura Boldrini, PD deputy and Chair of the Chamber of Deputies' Standing Committee on Human Rights in the World.
