Migrants, Piantedosi: "Policy unchanged, centers in Albania will remain open"

Rome, Aug 2 (LaPresse) – "I believe I’m naturally inclined to optimism and perseverance, and I can say that we will not change a single comma of our plans to combat illegal immigration, which, let’s not forget, involves the lucrative business of transnational criminal organizations."
This is what Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi said in an interview with Libero.

"The same ruling by the European Court, moreover, states that the decision is based on the current legal framework. Starting in June 2026, the new European regulations on the matter will offer other tools to counter irregular immigration, which today is often disguised through the instrumental use of asylum rights.

So we will continue with the many initiatives this government has already launched, which have led to a stable reduction of over 60% in landings on our territory compared to what we inherited, as well as a significant increase in expulsions since we took office."

What will happen to the centers in Albania?
"Exactly as now: the facilities in Albania will continue to operate as repatriation centers (CPR) and will soon resume functioning as centers for accelerated border procedures and their original purpose," he replied.
