Rome, 2 August (LaPresse) – ‘The massacre at Bologna railway station left an indelible mark of inhumanity on Italy's identity, perpetrated by a ruthless neo-fascist subversive strategy that aimed to strike at constitutional values, social achievements and, with them, our very civil coexistence’. These are the words of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella. ‘The events of 2 August forty-five years ago, with the mangled bodies, the many innocent dead, the immense suffering of their families, the upheaval of a city and, with it, of the entire national community, remain in the memory of the country,’ added the Head of State, who continued: "On this anniversary, we renew our feelings of closeness to the families of the victims. This is an expression of a cohesive community that adheres to the democratic principles that the perpetrators of the massacre wanted to erase, generating fear to undermine the institutions and trying to push the country towards authoritarianism, with responsibility established thanks to the tenacious work of magistrates and servants of the state."
