Migrants, p.Chigi: ‘EU Court decision surprising, it has no jurisdiction’

Rome, 1 August (LaPresse) – "The decision of the EU Court of Justice regarding the safe countries of origin of illegal migrants is surprising. Once again, the judiciary, this time European, is claiming powers that do not belong to it, in the face of responsibilities that are political. The EU Court of Justice has decided to hand over to any national court the decision not on individual cases, but on the part of migration policy relating to the return and expulsion of irregular migrants. Thus, for example, in identifying so-called safe countries, the decision of the national judge, based even on private sources, prevails over the results of complex investigations conducted by the ministries concerned and assessed by the sovereign Parliament. This is what we read in a statement from Palazzo Chigi following the ruling of the EU Court of Justice on the Italy-Albania protocol.
