Rome, July 31 (LaPresse) – “At present, there is no reason to ask Ricci to step aside. There is no evidence of his guilt. Asking him to withdraw would set a bad precedent,” said Five Star Movement (M5S) leader Giuseppe Conte during a press conference at the Movement’s headquarters in Rome.
“M5S,” Conte continued, “has chosen to firmly uphold the principles of good politics: respect for legality and public ethics. This commitment is part of our DNA; it is a founding vocation of the M5S. These are the principles that led us to consider the situation involving candidate Ricci. We are part of a coalition, and so it became necessary to pause and reflect on whether the candidate’s honesty is in question.”
“We will hold discussions in the coming days,” the M5S president added, “and we will ask Ricci to provide certain guarantees and to strengthen legal safeguards. We will ask him to adopt a protocol on legality.”
