Rome, July 27 (LaPresse) – "The Israeli army’s assault on the Freedom Flotilla is a very serious and unacceptable act. Soldiers forcibly boarded the ship Handala in international waters, seizing the vessel and cutting the live video feed showing activists with raised hands singing 'Bella Ciao.' On board, among the international pacifists, there are also two Italian citizens. I strongly urge the Meloni government to intervene immediately to verify their conditions and demand the release of all activists."
Thus Angelo Bonelli, deputy of the Alliance Greens and Left and co-spokesperson of Europa Verde, who adds: "This aggression against civilians is yet another violation of international law committed by the Israeli government. The Freedom Flotilla was carrying humanitarian aid, not weapons. Yet it was treated as a threat simply because it claimed the right to break the inhumane blockade starving Gaza. This is state terrorism."
"And while all this is happening," Bonelli continues, "Giorgia Meloni keeps repeating that 'this is not the time' to recognize the State of Palestine. A shameful statement that reveals the complete moral and political subservience of this government to Netanyahu and his extremist right. The truth is that Meloni does not want to upset her ideological ally, even if that means remaining silent in the face of 60,000 deaths, imposed famines, and hospitals razed to the ground."
"Yesterday in London, together with representatives from various countries and civil movements, we launched the Global Alliance for Palestine: an international mobilization front to stop the ongoing genocide and awaken the world’s conscience in the face of an unprecedented human and political tragedy," concludes Bonelli.
