Milan, 22 July (LaPresse) – ‘The justice reform proposed by the Meloni government risks completely distorting the role of the public prosecutor, transforming them into a specialist in prosecution. This is a serious mistake, because the function of the public prosecutor is not to prove a case at all costs, but to contribute to the search for the truth, as provided for by our Constitution.’ This was stated by Angelo Bonelli, national co-spokesperson for Europa Verde and member of Alleanza Verdi Sinistra, speaking on the programme “Coffee Break” on La7. ‘With this reform,’ Bonelli continued, "the public prosecutor is being transformed into a super cop, removing him from the third role he should have within the criminal process. Although it is said that Article 104 of the Constitution has not been touched, nor has Article 107 on the irremovability of magistrates, the government's desire to control the careers and promotions of magistrates through the executive is clear. This is the real crux of the reform."
