Rome, 13 July (LaPresse) – An appeal in support of Francesca Albanese has been made in an open letter sent to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and signed by representatives from the world of institutions and politics. Among them is former Chamber of Deputies President Roberto Fico, who shared it on his social media profiles. The other promoters are former Chamber of Deputies President Fausto Bertinotti, Claudio De Fiores, President of CRS, Emiliano Manfredonia, President of ACLI, Gianfranco Pagliarulo, President of ANPI, as well as former MEPs Luisa Morgantini, Roberto Musacchio and Pasqualina Napoletano. We were extremely struck,‘ reads the appeal, ’as former presidents of the Chamber of Deputies who have always had at heart the protection of their institution and its members, as former members of an institution such as the European Parliament, and as representatives of associations that care for the memory and relevance of democracy, by what appears to us to be a twofold action that affects not only a person, a citizen of our country, but also the function she performs. This exercise carried out by Dr Albanese appears to us, but we believe it is evident in its very objectivity, to be deeply in tune with the functions assigned to her and with the values and tasks of the body that assigned them to her.‘ ’What we find unacceptable,‘ the letter continues, ’is to impose arbitrary sanctions that appear to lack international legality or to organise campaigns against individuals. Here, it seems to us that there is a desire to prevent a function from being performed by targeting a person. We believe that, as an Italian citizen and an official of an institution such as the UN, in which our country participates, Dr Albanese should be supported and protected by our institutions. In this case, we are addressing you as Minister of Foreign Affairs and therefore as the authority that should represent this need to the governments of the United States and Israel, in relation to the UN.
