Rome, 12 July (LaPresse) – ‘Just two days ago, we arranged with ENAV for an important donation of five radars because we are helping to restore civil flight control, which is essential to give the Ukrainians some breathing space at this time. Then the aid plan, which must be agreed with all European forces, will continue. In short, the time has come to persevere and help them.’ These were the words of Roberto Cingolani, CEO of Leonardo, in an interview with Corriere della Sera the day after the Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine. Regarding Kiev's air defence, the CEO added, ‘We have signed an agreement with Baykar and are starting production of drones in Italy, with a plan of objectives that we have drawn up and agreed upon together.’ ‘The hope,’ he continued, ‘is that in the medium to long term there will no longer be a need and that this damn war will end. Now, however, we need to increase our capacity to supply the equipment that makes these drones effective, and we can be of great help in this regard. That said, we do not plan to open a factory in Ukraine.’
