Naples, July 10 (LaPresse) – Students will no longer be allowed to remain silent during their final oral exam as a form of protest against the school evaluation system.

This was announced by Education and Merit Minister Giuseppe Valditara in an interview with Rainews24, commenting on two students from the Veneto region who, confident that their final scores would still guarantee them a diploma, refused to take part in the oral portion of their final exams.

"Among the reforms we are about to implement," said Valditara, "in addition to those aimed at improving Italian and mathematics, there will also be a reform of the final exam. Behaviors like this will no longer be allowed."

He added: "If a student fails to attend the oral exam or deliberately refuses to answer questions from the examiners — not because they are unprepared, which can happen, but because they intentionally want to boycott the exam — they will be required to repeat the school year."
