Middle East, Prodi: "We are heading toward a balance of authoritarian regimes"

Milan, June 25 (LaPresse) – “We are moving toward a new division of the world. I don’t want to sound like Dr. Strangelove, but I am convinced that recent events have sealed a dynamic in which Putin has free rein in Ukraine, and Trump, in agreement with Israel, in the Middle East. We are heading toward a balance of authoritarian regimes, which may bring stability to the world. But it will be a terrible kind of stability because it considers only those in power, not the people,” said former Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi in an interview with La Stampa. Regarding the Italian government and Prime Minister Meloni’s stance on Israel’s actions in Gaza, Prodi said: “The government follows Trump’s instructions. The European right, starting with the Italian one, supports the U.S. president in the same way old communist parties used to follow the USSR. In this context, being pro-Trump means being skeptical of Europe.”
