Rome, 22 June (LaPresse) – ‘I ask Giorgia Meloni, for once, not to wait for instructions from above and to put the security of our country first. Do not make our military bases available and ensure that no shot will be fired by any of our soldiers.’ These were the words of M5S president Giuseppe Conte at a press conference outside the Movement's headquarters in Rome.‘We risk being involved in the Iranian conflict,’ he added, ‘because it is a scenario with unpredictable outcomes and, therefore, the issue of security arises on our territory and for our military personnel in the various contingents. As far as NATO is concerned, our involvement is not planned, but I ask Giorgia Meloni to clarify immediately that Italy will not participate in this escalation, not even by making the bases on our territory available.’
