Milan, June 21 (LaPresse) – “We usually say there is a big difference between a female leader and a feminist leader. It is useless to have a female prime minister who does not fight to improve the lives of other women in the nation. And we can see this difference in what the government has done in the past two and a half years, for example, by cutting funds for children's education. When resources for public healthcare and welfare are cut, we know what happens in Italy: all unpaid care work falls on the shoulders of women, and that is why they fall behind at work and even when they want to start a business.” This was said by the PD secretary, Elly Schlein, while speaking at the GroenLinks (Green Left) and PvdA (Labour Party) congress in Nieuwegein, the Netherlands. “So, it is useless to have a female prime minister if she does not fight to improve the living and working conditions of all women or even if she does not fight for their right to choose over their own bodies, because they are allowing anti-abortion activists to enter clinics and hospitals to prevent abortions,” she added.
